As I sit here drinking twenty ounces of a Starbucks mocha frap minus the whip cream, I figured I'd blog a few stories to keep those updated who live a distance away from me. So here comes the wonderful, caffeinated update.
Training at my new job is going really well. It's a ton of stuff to remember, and they use procedures I'm not quite used to, despite my past restaurant experience. But the people are nice and helpful, and by next week I should be opening by myself.
For those that don't know, my position is an opener. So I'm up at 4Am to get ready, and work from 5AM to either 10, or 1:30. I prefer this, because like today, I'm home by 10:30Am and ready to take on the rest of my day with coffee and soda by my side. Yeah, I'm in bed by 9 now, but I feel more productive throughout the day.
I'm really excited that my family will be coming down this Saturday to spend the day in Disneyland. I get to show them Buena Vista Street and Cars Land for the first time, along with Ghost Galaxy. Will I completely lose control and geek out? You betcha!
Things down here in the OC are going swell. I spend my free time in Disneyland, at the beach, Denny's with friends, or just wondering around town. Also hanging out with my bro or whoever else comes this way. There's so much to do, so much to see. Still really enjoying it, for the most part.
The fair started today. For those that don't know me- I grew up at the Kern County Fair. I raised sheep my whole life, and have entered countless exhibits. I haven't missed a fair in 15 years, and I don't plan to miss this one. Actually, I plan to take my girlfriend Danielle to the KCF and give her a tour. She has no idea what she's in for.
Other than that, this pretty much sums everything up for the moment. Oh, and I just finished my Starbucks. On to the soda I brought home from work!

Kern County Fair 2011
Well the fair has finally ended, and I'm sad to say that I missed a lot this year. Out of ten years, this was my least-attended fair. Since I was an adviser for the Jr. Fair Board this year, I wasn't really required to be out there for the activities. Also between school and work, finding time in-between was a little tough. I did make it out there for a few activities though, and I had a few nights to just hang out with friends which is always nice and relaxing.
The fair this year was bittersweet to me. I was pleased with the entertainment, and how that improved from previous years. But even with this improvement, I didn't see a huge attendance increase. Actually, it felt like one of the worst years for attendance. Perhaps that is just due to the economy, which is totally understandable. For a family of four, it can get spendy quick.
For me personally, I'm getting bored of the same things. It's always the same food places, the same rides and games, the same people on the little stages scattered around. I know I'm out there more than most people and I do see everything several times each year, so I'm probably more tired of it than everyone else. However, I still would like to see some small changes throughout the place. Just keep it fresh and updated.
Overall it seemed like a very successful year, and I've heard some positive reviews about everything which is always reassuring.
For any members of the KCJFB reading this- I'm happy with how the group turned out this year, and what you all accomplished. We successfully finished another year, and this year seemed smoother than some of the previous years. My only advice to you all is to stay professional at times. (I hope you get what I'm hinting at here...) Good job though. :)
If Mr. Bill Blair happens to read this, I'd just like to thank him for his time and hard work he has put in to make the Kern County Fair a great one each year. I wish him the best with retirement and the future. So thank you.
While I'm looking forward to 2012, I'm not sure if I'll make it out there with college. I know I probably won't be returning to the Jr. Fair Board as an adviser or member, so if I do come out it will only be once or twice. I'm not sure how I will feel about that... I've never been to the fair just twice. Well, not since I was 5 anyway.

I can't wait to hear what next year's theme is... I was surprised how well "It's Magic" worked out. Always something to look forward to, I guess.
The wait for a deep fried Snickers, Oreo, Twinky, and Kool-aid begins. And a long wait it will be!
Hope you all had a great time out there this year. And congrats to all the Champions in the barns! Your dedication has finally paid off! (Amazing feeling, isn't it?)
Now time to relax and catch up on some sleep. I have over 12,000 lights that aren't going to hang themselves!

The Fair Is Approaching
Well, September is here and my local fair is approaching. As some of you know, I love my fairs. I take fairs very seriously. I have been involved within the fair since I was 6 years old, and I still am. Over the course of these past 14 years, I have shown rabbits and sheep, and have entered things into contests like a rock collection, pictures, food, etc.
I have also been on the Kern County Jr. Fair Board all through high school, and now I'm currently an adviser for them. Through this I have had the experience to set up booths, do activities with the audience on different stages, play my violin before contests start (as well as various games, anything to keep the audience entertained while waiting), and help out in every department imaginable. I have had the opportunity to briefly work with the CEO and others that make the fair happen each year, and I was able to get my 2 cents in.
The fair is a great thing for family, and community entertainment. Every year I encourage everyone to go once, or twice, or everyday. It helps your community, and there is SO much hardwork people put into every detail that needs to be appreciated. Please, go to your local fair. Yes, it's going to cost you. But I promise it's worth it! Family memories.. :)
