Random Postings

I used to be extremely careful what I posted on Facebook. I never posted political things, because I have friends of all parties. I never posted religious things, because I have friends of all religions.

But lately, within the past few months, I started to post whatever I wanted- religious, political, it didn't matter. I never said ignorant things like: "This party/religion is the only right one, everyone else sucks" etc. I just quietly voiced my opinion, like everyone else. I thought, if you say your my friend, and you delete me because of something I post, obviously you aren't a friend. A friend could get over the differences.

Some people have deleted me. And guess what, it doesn't really matter. But if you have THAT much of a problem with it, just send me a friendly message. I'm a passive person, I promise I'll understand. Mkay? Just wanted to clarify this.

A Quick Thought on Harold Camping from my Pastor

Recently, Harold Camping falsely predicted that Jesus would return for His true followers on May, 21, 2011. He is an example of a “false prophet/teacher” that Jesus said would rise up in the end times (see Matthew 24:4-5, 11, 23-24). Jesus told His disciples to be aware and alert to these false teachers and not to allow them to deceive us into wrong thinking or actions.

In my experience, I have discerned there are three main characteristics that identify a false spiritual leader:

One person becomes very dominating and has high control or influence over his followers. He/she convinces followers to leave their churches and form fellowships to listen to him/her exclusively.
They condemn Christianity and claim to have the only true knowledge and authority. They reject all other teaching and claim to have exclusive truth.
He/she claims to have received “special revelation” from God.

To combat these false leaders, the Bible tells us to be discerning and always be prepared. Peter exhorts us in 1 Peter 3:15, “to set our hearts apart for Christ and always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks us to give a reason for the hope we have.” Paul encourages us in 2 Timothy 2:15, “to present ourselves to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Knowing and applying God’s Word to your life is the best way to keep yourself from being deceived by a false spiritual leader.

Marcus Luttrell- Lone Survivor

Have you ever heard of Marcus Luttrell? Perhaps you know that he was a U.S. Navy SEAL. Or that 24 hours after he and four others arrived at the Pakistani border, something horrible happened and only one, him, survived. You might have seen him alongside former President George W. Bush as he was awarded the Navy Cross for combat heroism in 2006. Or you might have read his book Lone Survivor.

Each year Hoffmann Hospice, a local hospice that my mother works at, has Voices of Inspiration. An inspirational speaker comes and gives a presentation through a dinner. Each year is someone different, and each person has an incredible story. This year, we were extremely fortunate to have Marcus Luttrell come and tell his story. A one-of-a-kind story it was, a kind of story that makes you teary eyed, and a kind of story you couldn't possibly fathom living in your lifetime.

I couldn't imagine being in his place, losing all my friends (and having to tell the families they were no longer here), and experiencing the fear and terror of the infamous Al-Qaeda. Serving your country is an honor, and he was rightfully awarded one of the most prestigious medals you could get. His story is unique, and one that everyone should have to hear. I highly recommend buying his book and sharing it with others. (You can get them on Amazon for under $10.) It is inspiring. And if you ever have the chance to hear him speak, don't pass it up.

Thank you, Mr. Luttrell, and everyone else who serves the United States of America. We are winning the War on Terror, and we will not give up.

Marcus Luttrell"

The Boss's Daughter

Each summer at my mom's work, the boss's daughter comes in and helps out. Her parents are really strict on her, and don't let her sit around at all. She is considered an employee who still has to clock in and out, and her parents do not give her any special treatment. She works in the same department as my mom, so they became really good friends. And as moms do, she brags on me. And within the last week, my mom has been trying to get me to take her out. She keeps telling me to go visit her at work, so I can meet her. Or all 3 of us could go to lunch. My mother always talks about her, and we do have some interests in common, but from how she has described her, she doesn't seem my type. I really shouldn't be picky, I've only been single for awhile now. But honestly, I'm not in a hurry. I have other things to concentrate on- like school, lights, my future and career. If a girl comes into my life, great. But until then, I'm happy where I'm at.

I might end up meeting her, to make my parents happy so they'll stop bugging me. But I really don't think she is for me. Who knows though. Anything could happen.

A Strange Coincidence

"An anchor and many valuable artifacts from a ship belonging to the infamous pirate Blackbeard, were found off the coast of North Carolina on May 29th.

Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, was born in 1680 in Bristol, England and died in 1718. He was captured by a band of soldiers sent by the Governor of Virginia, and killed in battle. He plied his pirate trade in the Caribbean islands and the Eastern coast of the American colonies." (Source: http://bit.ly/moG1mm )

Alright, Disney either planted this and tipped someone off, or they paid for this to be kept secret until Pirates 4 came out. A strange coincidence, yes?

Panhandling in Today's Generation

I get off the freeway, on my way to work. The light changes red, and I'm the first one in the front of the line. I act like I'm messing with my stereo, because to my left is a 'homeless' guy who is begging for money. Some people behind me roll down their windows and do give him something. But I don't. I never have. And probably never will.

Don't get me wrong, I love to donate and help people. Each month I donate $20 to online sites. (Usually $10 to a site, and $10 to another.) But I don't support beggars. I feel you should go get a job, if you are really in that situation. I know the Goodwill will hire you. It's a start, right?

A friend's friend worked at a local bank. He made pretty good money, since he was promoted in the bank. Yet on weekends he dressed different, and stood out on a corner in town and panhandled. He made several hundred dollars doing this each month. That's pretty much a part-time job. (True story)

Yesterday, when I was at that light, and that guy was there, he had a shirt on that said: "I celebrated my birthday at Tachi!" (A local casino). Now, his sign could be true and he really is homeless and someone gave him that shirt, or he is a gambler with a problem and can't control his addiction. I'm not one to judge, but why not try to get a job?

Then there's the dudes with the funny signs. At the same corner, a guy held a sign that said: "Chip-And-Dale Dancer out of work" (he flipped it over) "At least I'm not a stripper!" Yes, you could see the people laughing, and some donating. Again, I acted like I was changing the channel on my stereo, because it's just awkward when they are staring at you.

I would love to pick up one of these guys and totally change their life around. If you have ever donated your time to a homeless shelter, you probably have heard the stories they tell, and these people have some incredible stories. They aren't all bad, and a lot of them have had a horrible, hard life. They usually claim to know God, but don't know where to turn to get away from their drug addiction. It's sad, and I hope they find some comfort in life.

With credit/debit cards being so popular now, I wonder if their profits have gone down since hardly anyone carries cash anymore. Maybe when cash doesn't exist, if this ever happens, that will end panhandling. Who knows. I just pray for these people, and hope that the money they do get doesn't go to drugs or alcohol. But because I know it will, or they are a fake, I will not donate to them. I'll buy them food, and if they want to wash my car or work somehow for me, I will gladly pay them. But sitting on a corner holding a sign is not working. Sorry, I'm not your customer.
